“Love Found and Lost” (2024)
Een liefde ontstaan in de zomer, een jaar lang levend gehouden door dagelijkse brieven per airmail over en weer (er was nog geen email of whatsapp) en 1 telefoontje eens per week. Ik vond ze terug in een doos, ver weggestopt. Ik wilde ze niet verstoppen of wegdoen, maar een nieuw leven geven in mijn herinnering.
In de serie “Love Found and Lost” (2024) vormen deze oude liefdesbrieven de concrete basis van de schilderijen, met in de abstractie het gevoel van weemoed en verlies, herinneringen aan zonnige tijden, saudade.
A love in the summer, kept alive by daily letters by airmail (email nor whatsapp existed yet) and one long distance call once a week. Fourty years later I found the letters in a box, hidden away in the attic. I didn’t want to hide them nor throw them away, but I sought to bring new life to them in my memory by using them in my paintings and expressing my feelings evoked by those memories through paint.
In the series “Love Found and Lost” (2024) these old loveletters form the concrete basis of the paintings, with in the abstraction the feelings of melancholy and loss, memories of sunny days, and saudade.

Overige schilderijen
In mijn schilderijen zoek ik steeds meer naar een abstractie van de werkelijkheid. Soms zijn er uitstapjes naar wat meer figuratief werk. Maar toch kom ik steeds weer terug naar abstracte schilderijen, waarin ik mij het best kan uiten en die het dichtst bij mijn gevoel staan.
In my painting I am more and more looking for abstraction of reality. Sometimes I take a step aside to somewhat more figurative work. But always returning to abstract paintings, in which I am more able to express myself.
